The Perfect Holiday Cocktail: The Blood Orange Sour

Wow wow wow. The holiday party season is fasssssst upon us. We are mid way through December and I am already hearing about all the holiday parties that are upcoming. Harper and I are defintiely homebodies, but we still, surprisngly, get invited to a few holiday parties each year. For how much I love Christmas, I am always a bit let down by all the different holiday cocktails I try. They typically turn out to be super sweet (think peppermint flavor), which means I’m going to take a pass. This year I was determined to make the perfect holiday cocktail, and I think I nailed it with the Blood Orange Sour! (I know, I know, it doesn’t sound like a holiday cocktail, but stay with me, its delicious)
I was inspired last week when I went to an AWESOME holiday party hosted by SKYY Vodka and Studio Table. SKYY Vodka was highlighting their Blood Orange Infusions and I was blown away by how delcious all their cocktails tasted (It also helped that they were created by the brilliant bartenders at one of my FAVE SF bars, True Laurel). I had never thought of using blood orange as an ingredient in a cocktail, but when you think about it… blood oranges are only in season during winter, which clearly makes them the perfect holiday cocktail ingredient ;)
Sidenote: The party was incredible. For those who don’t know, Studio Table is a fine dining experience hosted at the studio of the very talented SF artist Heather Day. It is a BEAUTIFUL space. Just check out these photos. Can we move in?
Ok OK. Enough living room goals. On to the cocktail.
The Blood Orange Sour
You all know I love a good sour. This cocktail is actually super easy, and it also makes you look super impressive in front of all your friends. Plus the citrus flavors of the Blood Orange make it soooooo tasty.
Ingredients (Makes two cocktails)
4 oz SKYY Infusions Blood Orange
2 oz of fresh squeezed blood orange juice
1 oz of fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 egg whites
4 dashes of bitters
Add all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and then shake with ice. Strain into two coups and garnish with a beautiful blood orange round.
And there you have it. A beautiful Holiday cocktail that doesn’t involve your typical cinnamon or cranberry.
And all that’s left is to sip and ENJOY.
Hope you all try this one out and let me know what you think. Looking for some other great cocktail ideas? Make sure you check out some of my previous posts HERE, HERE and HERE. Hope you all have a safe and happy holidays. Remember to drink and holiday party responsibly.
